a Web OS is a website stylized to look and work like an operating system. it's not a real OS and it doesn't pretend to be one.
i have a weakness for these types of sites and want to collect them. here's a few.
- windows93.net: the OG. i am stunlocked by this site every time i visit it. one of the coolest things imo is that they coded basically every component of the gui from scratch, no fancy frameworks or anything as far as i can tell.
- dustinbrett.com: this is the most "professional" and polished i've found. looks and feels exactly like windows 10, impressive.
- oat.zone: special mention, isn't really a full Web OS but some kind of unix shell that acts as the whole website. very cool and what first motivated me to create my own js terminal.
- loom.freckleskies.net: seems unfinished at the time of writing, but cool palette and effects.
- github.com/copy/v86: actual PC emulator for the browser. i've seen personal sites have a linux terminal as their home page lol. but maybe it's not as fun when it's basically "real"
i'm even trying to slowly cook up my own aka TolomOS. it's still in early alpha (doesn't even have a start menu or an application bar) but i'm kinda proud of how terminal turned out.
